Leonardo Regano obtained his Master's Degree in Computer Engineering (final grade: 110/110) from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 2015 and his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and Systems in 2019. He currently holds the position of Assistant Professor (RTD-A) in Computer Engineering at the University of Cagliari. Previously, he worked as a Research Fellow from 2015 to 2020 and Senior Research Fellow from 2020 to 2023 at the Polytechnic University of Turin.

His research interests primarily focus on the security of computer systems and networks, particularly in the following areas:

  • Security and protection of software;

  • Applications of Machine Learning and Deep Learning for Cybersecurity;

  • Security of Software Networks.

From March to May 2023, he was a Visiting Researcher at Ghent University (Belgium). Dr. Regano is an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Computers and Applications (Taylor and Francis). He has been a member of the program committee for the ACSAC and ITASEC conferences since 2024, and he serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals, including IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics & Security and Elsevier Computer & Security. He has also participated in various international research projects, such as the EU-funded ASPIRE (2013-2017) and PALANTIR (2020-2023).

Since 2024, he has been co-teaching the Operating Systems and the Industrial Software Development courses for the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cagliari. He also teaches the Course on Software Security and Protection for the PhD Program in Electronic and Computer Engineering (DRIEI) at the University of Cagliari. Previously, he served as a teaching assistant for Object-Oriented Programming courses (2018-2021) and Information Systems Security (2022-2023) for the Bachelor's and Master's Degree programs in Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin.

In 2023, he obtained an international patent (further details available on Knowledge Share or Google Patents) for an innovative Deep Learning technology for automatic software security evaluation.
