Vlad Vasilescu is a Scientific Research Assistant and PhD Candidate within SIGMA-Lab @ CAMPUS Research Institute, University “POLITEHNICA” Bucharest, Romania, and a Visiting PhD Student at SmartLab, University of Genoa, Italy.

He obtained his BSc and MSc in Computer Science from University “POLITEHNICA” Bucharest in 2021 and 2023, respectively. He has been pursuing his PhD in “Stability and Robustness of Neural Networks” since 2023, focusing on identifying and mitigating the vulnerabilities of neural networks in different applications.

He has worked on several national and international research projects since 2021, including: CENTURION-H2020 - where he developed super-resolution algorithms for multispectral satellite images; DRAGON5 – where he focused on the analysis of multimodal satellite time-series from optical and radar sensors; xAI – where he worked with Gaussian Processes for satellite image enhancement. Additionally, he had two research internships (2021 & 2025) at Centre for Visual Computing, CentraleSupelec, Paris, where he focused on Lipschitz-constrained neural networks and robust generative models.

Besides his research career, he has been teaching the lab sessions of two MSc AI courses since 2024: Artificial Intelligence II, Deep Learning Methods and Artificial Intelligence III: Advanced Techniques for Developing Machine Learning Systems, with the latter being centered on adversarial attacks and defenses.

His main research interests include adversarially-robust neural networks, spurious correlations, adversarial examples, robust generative models, constrained optimization and remote sensing.
